our animals 3000x1000

Big Love is an organic, nature-lovers paradise and we work hard to keep it this way by promoting indigenous plants and strictly avoiding the use of any pesticides or insecticides.  This makes Big Love a popular place for many varieties of birds, animals and insects.

We have three resident labrador retrievers and one lively new Bali pup who roam freely in the communal spaces and two cats who prowl the grounds day and night.  A huge variety of birds including some egrets, herons and kingfishers live in the ricefields and our unmanicured wild meadow grasses attract butterflies and dragonflies of every size and colour imaginable.  A choir of cicadas, largely invisible during the day, breaks into song every evening as the sun begins to disappear.   Two families of monitor lizards nest on the banks of our river.

We take great pride in sharing Big Love with all these living things.  If living in harmony with nature in this way does not sound appealing then Big Love is not the right place for you.

Big Love is an organic nature-lovers paradise and we work hard to keep it this way by carefully promoting indigenous plants and strictly avoiding the use of any pesticides or insecticides.  This makes Big Love a popular place not just for ourselves, but also for many different varieties of birds, animals and insects, some of which live here with us but most of which come and go as they please.  We are constantly amazed at the variety of our fauna and we continually strive to live in harmony with it.

We have three resident labrador retrievers and one lively new Bali pup who roam freely in the communal spaces and two cats who prowl the grounds day and night. They are extremely friendly, love to meet new friends and will give you a warm and enthusiastic welcome when you arrive. They adore hanging out with you and will often sleep at your feet while you are working in one of our communal spaces.  They are not, however, able to access the part of Big Love that houses the retreat spaces and so will not disturb you when you need privacy.

We also have two pet cats who have lived at Big Love since they were rescued from the side of the road as kittens.  Peanut and Napoleon spend their days and nights prowling the grounds both within Big Love and beyond.  They are extremely independently minded and will occasionally disappear on a mission for several days, although as they grow older their appearance at meal times is becoming more reliable.

A huge variety of birds including some very beautiful egrets and herons live on and above our ricefields, especially as the rice ripens.  Our unmanicured wild meadow grasses attract butterflies of every size and colour imaginable.  A choir of cicadas, largely invisible during the day, break into song every evening as the sun begins to disappear.   Two families of monitor lizards nest on the banks of our river.

We take great pride in sharing Big Love with all these animal and many more.  If living in harmony with nature in this way does not appeal then maybe Big Love is not the right place for you.
