We take our role as guests on this magnificent island very seriously and over the years have tried to keep our footprint small and our contributions positive.  We strive to observe the Balinese philosophy of life, Tri Hita Karana, by promoting harmony among people, with nature and with spirit in everything we do.  Big Love is run on a not for profit basis.  100% of our profits are invested in the communities we serve.

Socially Responsible

We have built a wide variety of connections to the local village, contributing to their ceremonies and village budgetary needs.  From time to time we organise creative self expression activities for the local school children that have over the years included everything from crafting and drumming to film-making, movement and dance.  Many of the women in our village have contributed to our artisanal crafting efforts, gaining work experience and new skills.  Our resident team and their families are our family and their health and well being are always an important part of everything we do.

In Harmony with Nature

We built Big Love in partnership with mother nature.  We cut no trees and left much of the local flora around the property as we built.  We used clay bricks, stone, terracotta tiles and reclaimed wood wherever possible.  Our waste collection system is fully biodegradable.

We run a strict recycling programme in partnership with Eco Bali.  Plastic, glass, aluminium and paper are all recycled and reused.  Our composting heap takes care of biodegradable scraps from the kitchen and garden waste.

We grow as much as we can from fresh ginger and lemongrass to peanuts, long beans, water spinach, and passion fruit.  The property is covered in guava, bananas, rambutan, papaya and mango trees.  We are 100% pesticides and insecticide free and use only natural fertilisers on all our plants and flowers.

Spiritually Open

The highly charged energy of the island is alive and well at Big Love.  Our humanity is humbled by it and our emotional well being, positive outlook and creative inspiration fueled by this inexplicable connection to that something greater to which we all belong.
